Gunsmoke is an American television Western drama series created by director Norman MacDonnell and writer John Meston. The stories take place in and around Dodge City, Kansas, during the settlement of the American West. The series ran from September 10, 1955 to March 31, 1975 on CBS. Until 2005, it was the longest run of any scripted primetime series with continuing characters in American primetime television.
